If we are closing our office in China and letting the staff go, what are the laws and regulations we need to be mindful of?
Tom, thanks. It’s WOFE in Shanghai. Anything we need to be careful of when terminating the staff? We plan to pay out their notice period (one month) and pay severance of one month per year of service. Are we missing something?

What are my odds of finding solid employment if I fly to China without a pre-arranged job?

I’m a bit of an adventurous type, and I’m considering taking off for China without having employment lined up there beforehand.

I would be open to anything from a corporate job with a U.S. company’s Chinese operations, to completely freelance tutoring/teaching English.

I do not speak Chinese (but I’d love to learn). I recently graduated from college with a business degree, but I couldn’t care less if I work in the business world or not. I simply want to live in China, experience the culture, and save a reasonable amount of money.

How good of a shot at success do I have if I go over there with nothing but myself, a couple suitcases, and my wits? What problems am I likely to run into?

Thanks much!

Especially the Opening ceremonies - it was an awesome display of what Chinese manpower can do.

And, considering China’s population (1,320,000,000) is over 4X that of the USA coupled with their growing economic power, do you feel at all intimidated by the nation of China?

I heard about this, and had to look it up for myself to see if it is true. Sure enough, it happens, and it makes me so angry and disgusted, that I will NEVER support China in anything ever again.

How can a country be so cold-hearted towards animals..?? Fair enough that we use livestock for food, but when a country uses household pets as a menu item, that’s disgusting.
It makes me want to choke every Chinese Zoo staff member to death with my bare hands.
My main issue with the killing of these animals, is that it’s done in the name of ‘entertainment’.
These first few answers just prove that humanity is on a downhill slide… hearts grow colder, minds become de-sensitized, and ‘animal snuff shows’ are not something to be disgusted by. The ripping apart of an animal by another animal for entertainment at the cost of a few dollars is ‘OK’. Yup, the world sure is a f*cked up place.
And I couldn’t care less about humans, or their rights. We’ve messed the planet up enough, so any suffering on OUR behalf is our own fault.

Hi there

I may be offered a job on a credit card project with Royal Bank of Scotland and Bank of China, based in Beijing. I have a degree, MSc and 3 years of work experience. What salary should I ask for? I know it depends on the job but this has not been clarified just yet - I will be in a project manager support role of some form!

Also, any insight into accommodation rental prices/food prices (Chinese food) would be great. I also want to improve my Mandarin so if anyone has ideas about classes that are run in Beijing that would be great….all recommendations appreciated!!

Thanks a lot
